## **Introduction to the FUKS Program**

Hazardous situations can happen to any of us. They also occur at work and cannot be completely avoided – fortunately, not all of them result in injuries. Such events are worth analyzing and addressing through actions aimed at eliminating them.

In our company, as early as **2014**, we introduced a program for reporting so-called **near-miss incidents**. We wanted it to be fully aligned with our organizational culture, which is why we gave it a unique name: **FUKS**, meaning *“It’s Great to Avoid Any Damage.”*

FUKS is a program that engages all employees in activities aimed at improving safety. Through a dedicated application, employees can report hazards and propose actions to eliminate risks.

## **The Safety Pyramid – Scientific Evidence**

Workplace accidents have been studied by scientists for many years. One of the researchers was **Herbert Heinrich**, who analyzed the causes and consequences of accidents. The result of his work was the **Safety Pyramid**, a concept developed in **1931**.

The pyramid shows that for every fatal or serious accident, there are several minor accidents – and for each of those, hundreds of near-miss incidents. In simple terms, this means that by eliminating hazardous situations that did not result in injury, we can significantly reduce the number of accidents.

This is why building a strong foundation and engaging all employees in eliminating unsafe behaviors and conditions through **FUKS reporting** is so important in our company. In **2023**, our employees reported as many as **328 FUKS cases**!

## **The Role of the HSE Promoter**

We believe that each of us should have the opportunity to help create safe and friendly working conditions. To make this easier for employees, we introduced the role of the **HSE Promoter** as part of the program.

This proved to be a very good step – Promoters are a tremendous support in building a positive safety culture. An HSE Promoter is a volunteer who promotes safe behaviors, encourages FUKS reporting, and actively contributes to creating a safe and supportive workplace.

Currently, we have **over 30 HSE Promoters** representing various departments and job groups across the organization.
